Music, business, philanthropy, museum design, film, media, technology and communication have never been separate careers here.
They are parts of the same continuing exploration. A person who has spent a life making things does not become somebody else when the medium changes — the questions carry over, and so do the instincts. What was learned getting a song to work turns out to apply to an exhibition. What was learned in a boardroom turns out to apply to a cut.
The usual advice is to pick one. Specialise, go deep, become the person who does that particular thing. It is sensible advice and it produces a great deal of competent work.
It also assumes the disciplines are strangers to each other. They are not. Every one of them is a way of taking something true and complicated and getting it into somebody else’s head intact. Only the materials differ.
So this is not a list of jobs. It is one argument, made repeatedly, in eight different materials — and the through-line is easier to see across all eight than in any one of them.
